Student accused of taking gun to school

HOUSTON – A student has been accused of taking a gun to a northwest Harris County high school.

Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District officials said a student at Cypress Creek High School, 9815 Grant Road, was arrested on Monday.

School district officials said a student flashed a .45-caliber gun in class but did not threaten anyone.

The student was taken into custody immediately.

Parents signed up to receive school alerts got emails about the incident, but letters were not sent home with every student.

"I'm pretty appalled by it," parent Sonia Pollock said. "Them not sending something is pretty disturbing."

School district officials said the student, who is a juvenile, has been charged with a felony by the Harris County District Attorney's Office.

Some students said they were upset by the incident, but they generally feel safe.

"It's a very large campus," said Victor Garibaldi, the managing editor of the school's newspaper. "It's very safe. Like any high school, there comes a time when something happens."

About 3,300 students attend Cypress Creek High School.
