Student accused of making threats to shoot officer on campus

HOUSTON – A Kingwood High School student has been accused of making threats to use a firearm on campus.

Derick Richard Montelongo, 18, was charged with exhibition of firearms.

Court documents said that on Dec. 12, Montelongo drew graffiti on a school restroom wall and wrote "Kill officer West," along with a stick-figure drawing with the name of the officer, who works on campus.

The principal told the Humble ISD police department that there were other drawings as well, including one that said, "(Expletive) KHS. Shoot everyone at 3:07."

Video outside the restroom identified Montelongo as the suspect who entered the facility when the graffiti was drawn, officials said.

Several drawings that matched the ones in the restroom were found on Montelongo, according to court records.

Montelongo's bond was set at $10,000. He has been removed from Kingwood High School.

The following letter was set emailed to parents.

"Last week, two boys' restrooms were defaced with graffiti that was offensive and threatening. The graffiti in one of the restrooms included a drawing of a gun and a message against police and the school. Acting immediately, we were able to quickly identify the student involved and conduct a search to determine that this was a case of vandalism with no actual weapons involved. We then worked with Humble ISD Police and the Harris County District Attorney's Office to ensure that the incident was appropriately addressed. That investigation resulted today in the arrest of two students, who each face a charge related to defacing school property with graffiti. Our school will not tolerate vandalism, graffiti, threatening or offensive messages. Thank you for your support of a safe and positive school environment."

Sincerely,

Dr. Ted Landry
