Strong thunderstorms moving through Houston area

HOUSTON – A line of strong thunderstorms that developed Monday afternoon south of Dallas continued to press south into Houston ahead of a cold front.

The storms are bringing heavy rain, wind gusts and lightning through the area.

More storms are likely to flair up overnight as the cold front continues to draw closer to Houston.

The thunderstorms are capable of producing rainfall rates up to two inches per hour.

The thunderstorm threat will continue until the cold front passes south of the area. That will likely happen late in the day Tuesday.

When the front does pass, we will get a brief reprieve from our typical August humidity and will experience temperatures a few degrees below normal.

Enjoy it while it lasts though because we'll return to the normal August grind by Thursday!
