Stratford High School assistant band director accused of student sex

HOUSTON – A local female high school teacher is off the job after being accused of having sex with a male student.

Stratford High School assistant band director Michelle Strickland was arrested and charged with improper relationship with a student. Spring Branch ISD says Strickland, 23, served during the 2013-14 school year, and was removed from the classroom and away from contact with students following an investigation into an anonymous tip that she had an inappropriate relationship with an 18-year-old male band student.

Court documents state the teen said during the spring 2014 semester he engaged in sexual relations with Strickland in a storage room in the Stratford band hall.

Investigators say the student told them he also had sex with Strickland over spring break at his home around March 19.

The principal told investigators he reviewed the student's phone communication between the teen and the teacher that suggested an ongoing sexual relationship.

"Spring Branch ISD's number one priority will always be the safety of our students. We will take swift and decisive action against any employee who ever endangers a student. This type of behavior will never be tolerated in Spring Branch ISD. The bond of trust between our parents and students and the employees of the school district is critically important," a district statement read.

The district says it has fired Strickland.
