Store clerk shot, killed during robbery; gunmen on the loose

HOUSTON

Crime Stoppers and the Houston Police Department's Homicide Division are asking for the public's help in identifying and locating the suspects responsible for the murder of a north Houston convenience store clerk.

Hatem "Tim" Abuharbed was shot and killed around 8:45 p.m. during a robbery at the store in the 4600 block of North Main Street on Feb. 7.

HPD: Two masked men shot and killed a store clerk Sunday night, during a robbery at a convenience store in NW Houston -- at Airline Drive and N Main. Surveillance video shows one of the men jumping the counter and taking cash drawers. Police said the pair got away with two cash registers and an envelope filled with money.

Police said the thieves opened fire in front of customers, hitting the clerk. When officers arrived, they found the victim lying behind the counter. He was taken to Ben Taub Hospital, where he died.

Surveillance video captured images of the suspects. Both had gloves on and masks covering their faces. The video also showed one of the men jumping over the counter and taking money from two registers and an envelope of cash.

One suspect is described as African-American man, wearing a blue hoodie, silver or gray pants, white shoes, black gloves, a black mask and carrying a black handgun. The second suspect is described as an African-American man, wearing a black jacket, black pants, black shoes, a black mask,a black and white bandana on his face and carrying a silver and black handgun. Police tell us two men ran from scene. Investigators hope surveillance cameras from nearby businesses will help provide an ID.
