Woman surrenders to police after 2-hour standoff

HOUSTON – A woman surrendered Monday to police after a standoff that lasted more than two hours, authorities said.

The standoff started about 8 a.m. at an apartment building near Antoine Drive and West Little York Road.

Houston police said a woman ran into an apartment through an unlocked door and tried to keep the occupant from leaving.

As officers arrived, the occupant was able to escape, but the woman barricaded herself inside, police said.

The woman surrendered to officers about 10:30 a.m., police said.

Police said the woman was taken to the hospital for a mental evaluation.
