Remains found in Tomball home

TOMBALL, Texas – The Harris County Sheriff's Office is investigating a Tomball woman after deputies found unidentified remains at her home.

It happened on the 22000 block of Main Boulevard in Tomball.

According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, Katherine McDaniel's landlord evicted her on Thursday and workers later found bones, teeth and organs in jars at the home while inspectors and a cleaning crew were there after the eviction.

"I got back from work and it was probably around 6 or 7ish, and there was six sheriffs over there and a van," said Charles Warren, who told KPRC 2 he lives next door to McDaniel. "I was flabbergasted. I mean, I just didn't know what to do, I didn't know what to say."

McDaniel reportedly told sheriff's deputies the body parts they found were human remains she obtained from "a medical supply company" because she was "training dogs to be cadaver dogs."

The Harris County Sheriff's Office told KPRC 2 McDaniel was once licensed in the state of Texas as a trainer for cadaver dogs but it is now investigating to find out if she is currently licensed to continue that type of work.

Investigators described McDaniel's home as "an unhealthy living environment," saying she was "living in squalor."

"The whole place is covered in trash, junk. Lights almost never, water almost never," said Warren.

Deputies arrested McDaniel on Thursday after finding the remains because she had an open warrant for an unrelated case.

McDaniel was charged with abandoning/endangering a child with intent to return because, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, she left two children alone at home during an incident in October.

McDaniel appeared in court before a judge early Friday morning. She is being held in jail on a $2,000 bond.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office said it is waiting for the Medical Examiner's autopsy report to find out where the remains came from and whether they are human remains.
