Nine years after the death of a Virginia woman, her former husband from Montgomery County now sits in the Montgomery County Jail.

Investigators said 35-year-old Leslie Dickerson of Spring killed his wife Mindy Dickerson in 2005.

The woman's sister and mother spoke to Local 2's sister station WDBJ in Roanoke, Va.

"I received a text message from Leslie's current wife that he was arrested," said Mindy's sister, Kayla Holliday. "Then we confirmed it through the Pulaski Police Department."

Sherriff's deputies arrested Dickerson in Spring on Tuesday for the murder that occurred nine years ago in Pulaski, Va., a small town about 60 miles southwest of Roanoke.

When Dickerson's then-wife, Mindy, was found dead in the home they shared with their son, a coroner originally ruled she died of a brain disease.

Four months after Mindy's death, the cause was ruled a homicide. At one time, investigators took hair and blood samples from Leslie Dickerson and his new wife.

Mindy's body was exhumed last October and new evidence led to her former husband's arrest this week.

"My heart goes out to the Dickerson family. I don't know what it's like to be on that side," said Mindy's mother, Drema Patton. "Is it revenge that we want? No, it's justice."

Leslie Dickerson is in the Montgomery County Jail awaiting extradition to Pulaski County, Va. He was arrested on a fugitive of justice charge and faces a first-degree murder charge in Virginia.
