Someone tried to set house on fire

HOUSTON – Someone tried to set a northeast Houston house on fire Friday while a family slept, officials said.

Firefighters were sent to the 9300 block of Viscaro about 3:45 a.m.

Christian Serna said he woke up to find flames outside his window.

The fire started in the grass. Investigators said someone poured gas on it to ignite the flames.

"Do you have any idea who would want to target you like this?" KPRC Local 2 reporter Mark Boyle asked.

"No clue," Serna said.

The trail of charred grass started under a pickup truck and snaked around to the base of the home.

Vivian Serna work up to the smell of smoke and rushed outside. She and her five family members grabbed garden hoses and towels to douse the flames.

"It was all the way around back, wrapping around the house. He, I assume a he, did it on the side to try and trap us inside the house," she said. "We just put the water hose and water on the fire."

The fire was contained to the base of the home. The family worries what may happen next.

"Man up, tell us who it was. At least tell us who it was -- do something," Serna said.

No one was injured.

Investigators have few leads as to the person responsible.
