Social media post causes illegally planned pool party to get shut down

FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas – A Fort Bend County subdivision teamed up with the sheriff's office to use social media to shut down an unapproved pool party before it started.

A flyer circulated on Twitter last week advertised a pool party scheduled for July 7 and promised drinks with a beer emoji and "gas provided." The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office said "gas" is slang for marijuana, though the teens said it just meant transportation.

No address was listed, but potential party-goers were told to direct message organizers for the location.

The pool pictured on the flyer looked familiar to one person who works at the Sienna Plantation Club House.

"One of the lifeguards saw a tweet about it and communicated back to us that this was planned," said Sienna Plantation's general manager Sandy Denton.
Denton was concerned about a possible pop-up party and decided to use Twitter to get it shut down.

She alerted the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office, tweeting:

"Apparently @mycalevansjr @pimpchadjr2 and @youngdyloo are planning an unapproved party at our pool, can you make it?"

The FBCSO tweeted back: "Sure, we have plenty of room in our jail for trespassers. See you then."

"We knew they would reply, and they would get the message," said Fort Bend County Sheriff's Maj. Chad Norvell.

One of the teenage organizers tweeted back, "Of course, we planned on getting approval, trespassing is a major case that none of us plan on getting charged with."

But Thursday morning that same teen tweeted Channel 2 News:

"Nothing on our flyer specifically said the pool party was at the Sienna pool. The Sienna Rec page assumed that, because we used that particular pool for the background."

"We don't believe that. We're not that naïve," said Norvell.

True or not, Denton is pleased with the outcome and said the teens should be, too.

"The good news is they're not going to be having a party here, and they're not going to get in trouble," she said.

FBCSO said they will still have deputies at the pool next weekend, just in case some party-goers didn't get the message the party is now cancelled.
