Charged with trespassing during USA-Argentina match

HOUSTON – The soccer fan who got national attention after rushing the field during a soccer game appeared in court.

Michael Soto-Hernandez is charged with trespassing after he ran onto the field at NRG Stadium last week during the Copa America game between the United States and Argentina. He wanted to meet his idol, Argentina star Lionel Messi.

Soto-Hernandez's father was in court for Wednesday's hearing. He said his son is a good kid and just got caught up in the excitement. "I disagree with what he did," said Michael Soto. "But at this point, I'm not going to be so hard on him. He already knows not to do it again."

After leaving jail, Soto-Hernandez tweeted a picture of himself with the hashtag "worth it".

His case has been reset to July 20.
