HOUSTON -

Officials with Houston METRO offered a sneak peak of the new North Line Rail, which is a 5.3 mile expansion of the current Main Street Line.

The line will connect an area near the University of Houston, to the center of downtown with a series of eight stations along the alignment.

METRORail crews are still conducting extensive tests on the track and other components on the line, however officials say the project will finish eight month ahead of schedule.

The expansion is expected to be open for passengers on December 21.

Funds for the project are part of a multimillion dollar grant from Congress.
