Massive fire damages 16 apartments in Spring Branch

HOUSTON – A fire on Thursday swept through the upper floors of a Spring Branch-area apartment building, significantly damaging 16 units.

The fire was reported just after noon at the Carmel Creek Apartments near the corner of Hollister Street and Wilshire Place Drive.

Firefighters said the blaze may have started on the second floor, and high winds made it difficult to extinguish.

Gabriella Garcia, a resident, said her unit sustained smoke and water damage, and she will have to find a new place to live.

Firefighters said no injuries were reported, and a dog had to be rescued.
