Slow Dough Bread Company forks out $13K in late taxes

HOUSTON – Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector Mike Sullivan, joined by the county's delinquent tax attorneys, Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP, served notice on Slow Dough Bread Company on Thursday.

Slow Dough Bread Company owed more than $13,000 in delinquent taxes for tax year 2015. Each year, since 2012, this company pays their taxes late.

"I shouldn't have to show up at their doorstep, with a tax bill in hand, to collect their delinquent tax obligations," said Sullivan. "If I have to make a personal visit, they will have the choice to pay in full, or we will seize their property to satisfy the obligation. We give every taxpayer the opportunity to get their taxes paid on time. We offer support, reminders and payment plans. After we exhaust our resources, we have to get tough. I'm going to recover every dollar possible, to protect the integrity of the tax rolls."

Upon meeting with Mr. Sullivan and the delinquent tax attorneys, the property owner paid the amount in full.

The Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector's Office Property Tax Division maintains approximately 1.5 million tax accounts and collects property taxes for 71 taxing entities including Harris County. The Tax Assessor-Collector's office collects more than $6 billion in property taxes each year.
