Couple faces child endangerment charges after HPD finds drugs, gun in motel room

HOUSTON – The Houston Police Department has charged two people with child endangerment after they found cocaine, a pistol and children walking through broken glass in a motel room.

Police say they were called Friday to the Greenchase Inn at 97979 North Freeway and Blue Bell Road.

Investigators said Alejandro Calderon, 25, was choking Jannette Contreras, 25, in the motel room. Contreras tried to flee the room by breaking out a window, according to HPD.

Officials said they found the couple's 1-year-old son and 3-year-old daughter in the room where they had easy access to drugs and a weapon. Police said the children were allowed to walk through broken glass.

Calderon has been charged with two counts of endangering a child, possession of a controlled substance and assault of a family member. He is being held in the Harris County Jail on $85,000 bond.

Contreras faces two counts of child endangerment. She is being held in lieu of $4,000 bond.
