Channel 2 ran into Simone's mother, Nellie, before the performance.

"I am glad that Houston is one of the stops," said Nellie. "Simone is just gonna make Houston proud."

It was part of a busy day for Simone in her hometown.

Before the exhibition, she took time to sign autographs and snap photos for 250 adoring fans who waited in line at a Kroger in The Heights.

"It's definitely an honor for us to meet our fans because I remember whenever I was younger growing up and meeting my heroes, how much of an impact it had on my career and my life," said Simone. "I hope they feel the same special moment."

Thousands of fans would pack the Toyota Center later to see Biles and other athletes from the 2016 and 2012 Olympic gymnastics teams.

That included four of the Final Five team members from Rio.

It was a show of love and support for a Houston athlete who wowed the world.

The next stop on the tour is San Antonio.
