A.J. Crockett said he and his girlfriend were sleeping in his apartment when he heard a loud bang at the door. Crockett told Local 2 that he went to the door and saw a footprint where someone tried to kick it in.

Seconds later, the suspects kicked in the door of his neighbor. The victim said one suspect kicked his door and another was on his balcony.

The victim said he heard a gunshot, so he fired his shot gun. That's when the suspects, two men and possibly one woman, took off running.

The victim said one of the suspects dropped their cell phone at his apartment.

He said this was the second time that his unit was broken into. The first time was last week when two white men broke in. This time, the victim said the two suspects looked Hispanic or possibly were light-skinned black men.

Neighbors said the tenants who lived in the victim's unit before him were drug dealers. They were evicted last month.

Police are checking area hospitals because they believe one of the suspects was shot by the victim.
