Shopper's suspicion help police arrest man on week long crime spree

Police said the man was driving a stolen car and was out on parole for burglary and robbery when he was arrested

BAYTOWN, Texas – A shopper's suspicion lead to the arrest of a man Baytown police say was on a week long crime spree.

Itzel Vasquez, an assistant store manager, said she was in a dollar store when she spotted the same man accused of robbing her store.

"A swarm of cops came in asking for everybody to get out," said Vasquez.

More than 20 shoppers rushed out of the Dollar General store on North Alexander as police rushed in.

Officers surprised 48-year-old Johnny Dwayne Johnson at the back of the store and took him into custody.

Police said it was a clerk from another store who was shopping when she recognized the suspect from a recent robbery at her store and called police.

Johnson is currently charged with burglarizing the nearby Redeemer Lutheran Church and is suspected of robbing a Baytown Baskin Robbins ice cream store, where police believe he was captured on surveillance video.

Johnson is being questioned about multiple crimes this past week.

Police said Johnson was driving a stolen car and was out on parole for burglary and robbery when he was arrested.
