Holiday travel causing headaches, delays

HOUSTON – Bad weather in Chicago and along the East Coast caused many flights into Houston to be delayed Tuesday.

According to Flight Aware's misery map, which displays delays at airports across the country, Houston Bush Intercontinental Airport ranked between first and third among airports in the United States.

"The flight I was on was canceled. The next one was delayed, but I got a seat. The when I finally boarded and sat down I was double booked. Someone else was booked in my seat," Jean Hitchcock said about her trip from Des Moines.

She arrived nearly 12 hours late.

Her daughter was coming from Memphis and had to be rebooked after weather delayed her flight and then her plane had mechanical issues.

Both connected through Chicago.

Another passenger, Shannon Dowdell, flew into Houston from Singapore after a 30 hour journey.

"I was on time from Singapore to Hong Kong to Chicago, but it's a physical impossibility to leave Chicago on time," he said with a smile.

In the end most passengers made it to their destinations, even if it took longer than they planned.

"Made it to family for Christmas, just happy to be here," Hitchcock's daughter, Ashley Homeyer, said.
