HOUSTON - A shoplifting suspect who bailed out of a moving car during a police chase was arrested on Friday afternoon.
Houston police said the chase started near Baybrook Mall, where someone reported seeing someone break into a car about 3 p.m.
While police were responding to that case, they saw two suspected shoplifters run out of the JC Penney store.
The shoplifting suspects the led officers on a chase northbound on the Gulf Freeway feeder road and eventually on to the main lanes, investigators said.
Detectives said the passenger bailed out of the car near F.M. 2351 and ran into a field, where police arrested him.
The driver kept going, but police said they caught him near Dixie Farm Road.
The names of the suspects have not been released. Police said they will face several charges, including evading arrest.
Back at the mall, investigators said an off-duty officer fired a shot when the car burglary suspects tried to flee.
