Security guard shot while patrolling apartment complex

HOUSTON – Houston police were investigating Thursday morning after a security guard was shot while patrolling a southwest Houston apartment complex.

Residents said gunshots rang out around 1:30 a.m at The Palms on Westheimer apartments.

"Me and my girlfriend, we were laying down, when we heard three shots," said Calvin Martin, resident.

According to investigators, the 39-year-old security guard was driving around the complex in a golf cart when he saw a man hiding between two vehicles. He told police the suspect stepped out, fired a gun, then took off. The security guard was hit twice.

By the time paramedics arrived at the complex on Westheimer Road near Winrock Boulevard, the suspect was gone.

The security guard was reportedly a longtime employee at The Palms.

Residents said they were shocked and couldn't imagine who would fire a bullet at the guard
