Security guard shot during game-room robbery

HOUSTON – A security guard was shot during an attempted robbery at a northeast Harris County game room, authorities say.

The shooting happened early Sunday morning on Homestead near Norments.

Investigators said a man and a woman pulled up to the game room in a white pickup truck. The woman walked up to the security bars at the door and showed the guard a membership identification, investigators said.

"Once he opened the door, the male came behind her with a shotgun and confronted the security guard. Ends up shooting him," said Sargent Joe Halm with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators said the security guard was shot in the stomach, but he somehow managed to return fire.

Michele Cheema said she was at the game room at the time and saw the whole thing go down.

"I heard two pops and I felt a scratch right here," said Cheema. "I got the security officer's blood right there."

Investigators said the suspects took off.

The security guard was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Rayford Skelton, who lives nearby, said the area where the shooting happened is a rough one.

"I've heard eight shots back there one night," said Skelton. "It gets a little bit hairy down here. Sometimes I get down on the floor between my two beds."

If you have any information about the shooting, you're asked to give police a call.
