A thief targeted a Pasadena ISD middle school early Friday morning, police said, and the entire crime was caught on the school's security cameras.
According to Pasadena ISD police and Houston police, the suspect used a crow bar and sledgehammer to break into the portable classrooms that are part of the Billie & Kathleen Morris Middle School located in the 10000 block of Fuqua.
A spokesperson for Pasadena ISD said the school's alarm was triggered at 3:15 a.m. Associate Superintendent for Communications Renea Ivy-Sims said campuses are monitored by Pasadena ISD police 24 hours a day. Pasadena ISD police then alerted the Houston Police Department.
Police said the suspect stole a projector and a laptop from the school, but dropped the projector in a field as he was running away.
Houston police searched for the suspect and called in additional units, including a K-9 unit, to assist with the search, but the suspect managed to get away from officers.
So far, no arrests have been made. Ivy-Sims said the district is now considering the installation of additional surveillance cameras and more lighting, as recommended by Pasadena ISD police.
