The University of Houston has put out a security alert after an incident on campus.

A female student said things got violent when a thief stole her backpack from her car while she was sitting in it.

The theft happened Tuesday at approximately 3:15 p.m.

According to information posted on the University of Houston's website, the student was sitting in the passenger side of her vehicle in parking lot 9C when a man entered the driver's side of the vehicle and removed her backpack.

As the man got into another vehicle that was waiting nearby, the student reached inside his vehicle to grab her backpack. She said the suspect pushed her face, breaking her glasses.

The thief drove away. The student described his vehicle as white or tan in color. It was a four-door, older model car. She also said it was covered it dirt. The car was last seen driving east on Wheeler Street.
