Firefighter hurt, dog rescued in west Houston apartment fire

HOUSTON – A Houston firefighter was hurt battling a two-alarm fire at a west Houston apartment complex Monday.

Ten units suffered water damage, along with heavy fire and smoke. Authorities say it was declared under control at 8:03 p.m.

It took 75 firefighters to get the flames under control.

A pet dog and cat were rescued from the blaze.

A precautionary mayday was called after firefighters got separated and couldn't find each other. It was later called off.

A car parked next to the apartment building caught fire first, spreading flames to the upper floors. The fire will remain under investigation by HFD.
