HOUSTON -

One man was arrested and another ran away from police after breaking into multiple cars at a southwest Houston apartment complex.

Officials said a group of people woke up early Thursday morning at the Spring Forest Apartments on Bissonnet to find expensive and unwanted surprises.

Houston police told Local 2 that two men started smashing out the windows of cars in the parking lot around 2 a.m.

A woman living in the apartments said saw the crime happening and called 911.

Police said they saw the two suspects in the process of breaking into one of the vehicles when they arrived.

Houston police were able to take one of the men into custody. Despite the help of a K-9 unit, police said the other man got away.

Officials said at least six cars were broken into.

Police said there may be more reported once people in the complex wake up and check on their vehicles.
