Seahawks player to go to prom with local autistic teen

ANAHUAC, Texas – Prom season is just around the corner and for one local high school student it will definitely be a night to remember.

Taylor Kirkwood, 18, of Anahuac High School, recently found out she'll be attending the prom with Seattle Seahawks player and former Texas A&M player, Christine Michael.

"I was just like we'll see what happens," her mother, Stacie Holmes said.  "I know he's busy and I wasn't sure if he could."

Holmes wanted to do something special for her daughter, since Taylor hasn't always had it easy.  Not only is she autistic, but until surgery a couple years ago she suffered from scoliosis.

Through it all, Taylor keeps a positive attitude.  It's a trait that earned her the title of Anahuac Homecoming Queen for this school year.

"She can be a little bit shy, but she's a bundle of fun," Holmes says.

Turns out, Holmes' cousin went to West Brook High School in Beaumont with Michael, who's now a running back for the Super Bowl champions. They were good friends and when Michael told them he would take Taylor to prom, to say she was excited is an understatement.

"After my teacher showed me the picture, my eyes just lit up," Taylor said.

Now she's prepping for the big night, already practicing how she will pose for pictures at The Chambers House in Anahuac.  She still hasn't found the perfect dress yet, but there is no question it will be her favorite color -- pink.

"We talked colors and I just said pink, I know it's going to be pink," Holmes said.

The prom is set for April 12 at the Goose Creek County Club in Baytown.
