Schools locked down during search after shooting

HOUSTON – Two schools were put on lockdown after shots were fired in northeast Houston on Friday.

Houston police said neighbors and teachers at Dogan Elementary, 3300 Russell, and Fleming Middle School, 4910 Collingsworth, heard gunshots about 11:30 a.m.

Witnesses said the situation started because of an argument between a group of men and a homeowner that happened in the 4100 block of Lucille on Thursday night. The argument sparked back up on Friday and the homeowner fired shots at the men, who were in a SUV, witnesses said.

The driver of the SUV crashed across the street from Dogan Elementary, police said. When officers arrived, they found a lot of blood inside the SUV but the men were gone, investigators said.

The Houston Independent School District put the two schools on lockdown about 12:30 p.m., while officers searched the area. The lockdowns were lifted about 2 p.m.

Officials have not said if any of the men they were looking for were found.
