School district loses crossing guards due to budget cuts

A spokesperson for the district also told Local 2 that the school's do not provide crossing guards for secondary schools

LA MARQUE, Texas – Students are forced to cross a street without crossing guards because of budget cuts.

La Marque ISD said the district's police department and the crossing guards were eliminated because of the budget cuts.

A spokesperson for the district also told Local 2 that the school's do not provide crossing guards for secondary schools.

"I think it's kind of ridiculous. They should have school crossing guards, someone whose able move the traffic. You have to make sure the kids get across safely," said one concerned family member.

A spokesperson for La Marque ISD said no student ever crossed the street alone and that teachers as well as a postal worker assisted with the student crossings.
