PORTER, Texas - A Salvation Army volunteer was arrested after police say she stole items from a Walmart Supercenter.
Royal Shields, of Conroe, was assigned to stand near the entrance of the Walmart on US 59 in Porter and collect money for the charity.
Around 3:30 p.m. Monday, loss prevention employees detained Shields after witnessing her hiding merchandise in her apron, and leaving the store.
According to officials, Shields had multiple bottles of cologne and perfume in her apron valued at more than $70. Because she had two prior theft convictions, the charge was enhanced.
Shields, 56, is charged with a state jail felony theft.
