Safe stolen in second break-in at man's home

HOUSTON – Two men broke into a southwest Houston home and took a safe filled with cash, investigators said.

"They just broke the window, came through the back room," victim Carlos Sanchez said. "They came for what they left behind the first time."

Sanchez said Tuesday's break-in at his home in the 6400 block of Paddington near Warkworth was the second in month.

Sanchez owns a landscaping company. He said he's worried that one of his employees might be to blame because whoever stole the safe knew exactly where to go.

A neighbor who spotted two men taking the safe out of the home called police.

Neighbors said they saw the men struggling with it before dropping it in a large trash bin. Houston police found the safe there and returned it to Sanchez.

"Today's my birthday, too," Sanchez said. "I'm glad we found it."

Detectives said they searched the area for the burglars, but all they found was a backpack with a mask inside.

Detailed descriptions of the men have not been released.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
