Rosenberg roads hit hard by storms, flooding

ROSENBERG, Texas – It was a wet and rainy ending to the work week. Friday commuters stuck in a sloppy situation out on the highways headed home from work.

Over in Rosenberg, the rain had quite an impact. Roads were flooded, and police even shut many of them down.

"We had approximately eight roads that were closed off. They have all been reopened. The system has passed us. The water is receding so the closures have been reopened," Sgt. Marmol with Rosenberg police said.

But one road was still closed Friday night. The rain filled up the underpass on Highway 36. Police had to block off the entire section, detouring drivers around through Highway 90.

Ryan Johnson was one of those drivers.

"Seems like it's flooded so I got to go another way, and I'm not from around here. So I'm trying to get to Cat Springs -- so I normally go through 36 and come all the way around. So now I got to go the opposite way, might get lost but I got GPS," Johnson said.

Another street flooded over on Wednesbury in Southwest Houston. Cellphone video shows it didn't stop a driver from pushing through.

Luckily no one got stranded there, but over in Baytown, it was a different story.

One driver became the hero of the day. Cellphone video shows her pushing drivers stranded in high water to safety.

"When we talked to them, they sounded like they were in panic mode. They were kind of scared, didn't know what to do. They didn't care if their bumper was messed up or anything as long they got out of the water. They said everybody was passing by, not even trying help or ask," Heather Contreras said.
