Rock falls, seriously injures local girl

7-year-old Cypress girl recovering in Hawaii

CYPRESS, TexasA 7-year-old girl from Cypress was in the hospital in Hawaii after a big rock hit her. It happened over the weekend while the family was on a tour during vacation. The 15 pound rock left Leila Clark with severe injuries and she was taken into ICU.

"That's when they discovered severe chest trauma, a collapsed lung, six broken ribs and a huge gash in the back from the rock that they stapled back together," said family friend Mary Orr.

Orr told Local 2, "It took about an hour to get EMS to her and she was not in good shape when they got there, so they decided to air flight."

Leila has been dancing at the Hintze Dance Center on Spring Cypress Road at 290 in Cypress for more than two years. Her friends were putting together a care package for her and her family.

Hintze Dance Center owner Virginia Hintze said, "We're collecting gift cards because being out of state and not at home, and having to deal with the financial side of having to stay somewhere for many many weeks, can be a hardship on the family. That is our way of helping them."

Two other people received minor injuries when the rock fell and hit Leila.
