HOUSTON – Four teenage suspects, three boys and a girl, were being shadowed by undercover Houston police officers Thursday morning.
The officers followed the teens as they cased two stores before they went into the Kroger on U.S. 59 in Porter.
According to police, three boys went inside the grocery store, walked up to the store’s service desk, and demanded money.
When the clerks didn’t move fast enough, one of the suspects fired a shot into the wall as frightened shoppers scurried for cover.
The teens ran back to their car and left the scene, apparently unaware undercover officers were following them and calling for backup.
“Those unmarked undercover units were following the individuals as they left. HPD marked units caught up with them and initiated pursuit,” Lt. Scott Spencer said.
When the squad cars tried to pull the car over near Imperial Valley and Beltway 8, the suspects sped away, setting off a chase that lasted for about 3 miles at speeds of 100 miles per hour.
It ended in north Houston when the driver suddenly pulled over, jumped out and ran.

As officers chased him on foot, the three other suspects surrendered.
It wasn’t long before police captured the fourth. A police dog locked on to him and brought him down.
In the process, an HPD officer and a Department of Public Safety trooper were injured.
