Harris County deputies surrounded the Stripes Gas station after a deadly shooting early Monday morning.
The deputy was investigating a Volkswagen sedan parked at an odd angle on Highway 249 and Upland Willow Avenue in Northwest Harris County.
Around 1:45 a.m., the deputy decided to go into the gas station to see if the driver was inside.
According to investigators, when the deputy walked in, he interrupted the robbery.
Thomas Gilliland, spokesman with the Harris County Sheriff's Office said, "As he entered the store, he encountered a robber who had one of the (female) attendants by the throat and was threatening to kill her. The deputy ordered the male the step away from the female. He didn't comply. He (deputy) ordered him again, he (suspect) threw a money bag at he deputy and at that point he was told to show his hands. The robber reached back to his pocket as if he had a weapon. The deputy fired his weapon one time, striking the robber."
There was one other clerk, a male, inside the store at the time. He was not hurt.
Deputies believe the robber parked his car outside of the view of the store's surveillance cameras to avoid being captured.
We are told the deputy who shot the robber had been with the Harris County Sheriff's Office for more than 16 years.
