Shooting leaves one in hospital, one detained in NW Harris County

HOUSTON – Harris County Sheriff's investigators say a shooting Tuesday evening at FM 529 and Eldridge Parkway may not have been a random road-rage incident.

Deputies responded to the Northwest Harris County intersection just after 5:30 p.m.

"I saw a guy laying in street, I (asked if) he was run over, they said, 'no he didn't get run over he got shot, shooter is right next to you,'" said witness Tyler Unverzagt.

Investigators say the 27-year-old driver of a Toyota minivan pulled in front of the driver of a black Mercedes. That man got out of his car, and punched the driver's side window of the Mercedes, shattering it.

The 32-year-old Mercedes driver then got out of his car and shot the other driver twice as he was going back to his minivan.

Deputies say the two men are of the Sikh faith and had just left a religious service. Channel 2 News also learned they have the same last name but it is unclear if they are related.

"They may have had previous altercations with each other," said Deputy Thomas Gilliland.

The wounded man was taken by LifeFlight to a hospital in good condition despite his injuries.

So far no charges have been filed. Once HCSO completes its investigation, the case will to go a grand jury to decide.
