Rice University student robbed at gunpoint

Student robbed while at bus stop

HOUSTON –  Police at Rice University are searching for the thief who robbed a student on campus at gunpoint.

The woman was at Bus Stop "B" Tuesday at 9 p.m. when a man got out of a vehicle, pulled a gun, and demanded money, officials said.

The thief then got back in the car and the getaway driver took off.

The student's cellphone and cash were taken, but she was not hurt.

University officials said the bus stop where the robber happened is near the stadium, close to the edge of campus.

Robberies are very rare on Rice's campus. There has been one robbery and five rapes in the past three years.

The suspect in Tuesday's robbery was described as a black male in his 20s, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall with a thin build, clean shaven, with short hair. He was wearing a red T-shirt.
