A Rice University football player, who measures 4 feet 9 inches, got some playing time on Saturday, making him the shortest player ever to take the field in a bowl eligible conference.
Jayson Carter, a sophomore running back on the practice squad, gained a single yard in the weekend game versus UTEP.
Carter entered the game for only one play in the fourth quarter when things were already well in hand, on the road to a 45-7 victory.
"It is a milestone. My friends and family called and emailed to congratulate me," Carter said.
Carter, according to reports, has a genetic condition that limited his height. However, pound for pound he may be the strongest person on the team.
He can bench 320 pounds and run the 40 yard dash in less than 4.5 seconds. He weighs just north of 120 lbs.
Carter said during a Rice University press conference, Monday, he hoped he would get another shot on the field.
"He's treated the same as everyone else. He works hard. He's a great student. A dime in a jar full nickels," Coach David Bailiff said.
