Community Asked To Help Name New FBISD Schools

Residents have until Feb. 20 to make their submissions.

FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas – Residents in Fort Bend have been asked to help the Fort Bend Independent School District come up with the names for two new elementary schools set to open by 2016.

The campuses, currently referred to as "Elementary 46" and "Elementary 47," will be  located at 17727 Abermore Lane in Richmond and 17828 Winding Waters Lane in Sugar Land, respectively.

Elementary 46 is set to open August 2015, while Elementary 47 has a scheduled open date of August 2016.

Residents seeking to suggest names for the  campus were encouraged to write a short summary explaining why their suggestion would make a good name for the campus. The district is encouraging names of biographical or historical significance.

In years past, the school district has named campuses after the neighborhood which the serve, but the FBISD is asking to avoid those names with the new schools, as rapid growth in the area means the schools will serve several neighborhoods and subdivisions.

Submissions can be delivered to Deputy Superintendent Dr. Christie Whitbeck at 16431 Lexington Blvd., Sugar Land, TX 77479, sent in via fax or (281)327-1812 or emailed to isabel.mendez@fortbendisd.com

The deadline for submitting potential names is Feb. 20.
