HOUSTON – There are new gadgets and smartphone apps to help consumers complete their New Year's resolutions.

If you vowed to exercise more, the Pact app can provide a monetary incentive to help you keep your goal.

"You make a pact to exercise more or eat more healthfully, link up a payment method and set a penalty for yourself if you don't follow your pact," said Julianne Pepitone, a Tech Editor with NBC News.

If your goal is to learn a new language, there's an app for that too:

"Lingua.ly is a free app that helps you learn practical phrases and the specific words that you personally want to learn," Pepitone said.

Gadgets can also keep you accountable. Fitness trackers like the Fitbit or the Misfit Shine can track your daily exercise.

The Pavlok is a unique wristband that can ‘shock' you into changing your habits:

"You'll get messages on your phone and vibrations on the wristband reminding you to take action, and if you don't, you'll get zapped!"

If your aim is to quit smoking, the Quitbit is a smart lighter that tracks your smoking and sets daily limits.

And finally, for healthy eating, the Prep Pad is a food scale that can help you track what you're eating.

"Just place your food on the scale, tell a companion app which food you're weighing, and the app shows you a pretty chart that tells you how balanced your meal is," said Pepitone.
