Restaurants, businesses offer freebies to thank veterans

HOUSTON – If you are a veteran, you don't need to pay to eat this weekend. Many Houston-area restaurants are offering free meals in honor of Veterans Day.

Olive Garden and Applebee's are offering a free entree for all veterans and active duty military on Sunday.

Hooters is saluting veterans with free wings and Denny's will serve all-you-can-eat free pancakes for veterans on Monday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Colonial Car Wash, 12810 Westheimer, is honoring those who served by giving them free car washes Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

There are several free weekend events for the whole family to enjoy including the 2nd Saturday Muttcracker Market from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Houston Humane Society, 14700 Almeda Road. There will be free hot dogs, popcorn, caramel apples, bounce houses for humans and free rabies vaccines for pets.

Also Saturday, the Christmas tree will be lit on the ice rink at The Galleria. The 24th annual tree lighting and ice skating show will feature NBC's The Voice Finalist and Republic Nashville recording artist RaeLynn and a visit from Santa Claus.

The Houston Cinema Arts Festival will feature the classic film An American in Paris at Miller Theater at 6:45 pm on Sunday.
