Restaurant Report Card for March 29: Fleas, rats & ants

HOUSTON – A repeat visit to one Houston pizza place finds even more serious violations, but there are two spotless places in this week's Restaurant Report Card where you can take your family to chill out and have some fun.

We're starting where hundreds of you start your morning -- at Shipley Donuts. At the store at 6411 Martin Luther King, the ants love it, too. Inspectors asked employees to minimize the presence of ants in the food prep area.

At Taqueria Elyse's in the 7600 block of Clarewood, inspectors said they saw a live roach on the wall at the front service counter. They asked employees to take measures to minimize the presence of rodents, flies, cockroaches and other insects, too.

The pests at Chez Beignet at 10623 Bellaire may be more interested in you than your food. Inspectors said there are fleas in the food preparation area. At Dave & Buster's on the Katy Freeway near Silber, it's all fun and games until inspectors find rodent droppings on top of the dish machine. And they did.

In last week's Restaurant Report Card, inspectors found rodent droppings in the food prep area at Texas Pizza at 1853 Richmond. They may have fixed that problem, but when inspectors went back the week after, they said they found a dead rat under the sink. Texas Pizza did get a citation for the dead rat. Inspectors also told employees to seal all of the openings in the walls and ceiling to the outside.

Want to cool off at a clean place?  Inspectors found no violations at Snow Vice at 4209 Washington Avenue.  There's nothing but good clean fun at The Cafe inside the Weekley Family YMCA on Stella Link. Both places earn A's in this week's Restaurant Report Card.
