Restaurant Report Card: Roaches run rampant in local eateries

HOUSTON – We begin this week’s big Restaurant Report Card at The Little Bitty Burger Barn at 5503 Pinemont, which was written up for roaches.

Health inspectors reported finding two roaches behind the food-prep cooler and another one under the kitchen sink.

At Pizza 7 on Gessner, inspectors eyeballed more roaches.

They found a dead cockroach in the sink, live cockroaches on the wall above the sink, and more cockroaches under the microwave, on the freezer and on the floor near the cooler.

The order was given to get rid of those roaches.

The cavalcade of cockroaches continued at Darband Shishkabob at 5670 Hillcroft.

Inspectors observed a dead cockroach in the freezer cabinet and live cockroaches in front of the freezer floor and on the wall near the kitchen sink.

The manager told Channel 2 News there is no roach problem, but still inspectors ordered the eatery to eliminate cockroaches and face a re-inspection.

And attention all Cheesecake Factory fanatics: At the CFF on Westheimer, health inspectors found food not safe for human consumption.

We’re talking about beef patties and veggies not being stored at safe temperatures below 41 degrees.

All of that food was condemned and thrown away.

There are still more cockroaches to talk about.

At the Osaka Japanese Restaurant at 515 Westheimer, food inspectors observed live roach activity at the microwave area.

An official citation was issued.

And this week we send out our most heartfelt congratulations to the hardworking crew at Halal 5 at 10714 West Belfort.

The restaurant earns our coveted A-Plus Award for a spotless health inspection.
