Restaurant report card for April 11: Roaches, slime and dirty ice machines

HOUSTON – Health inspectors found roaches galore and some of the dirtiest ice machines in Houston in their most recent restaurant inspections.

At Erawan Authentic Thai Cuisine in Tanglewood at 5161 San Felipe, health inspectors said they found roaches on the walls, dish table, dish machine and near the three-compartment sink. The owner let us inside to show us that he has since evicted the uninvited guests.

"So what do you do to prevent it?" consumer expert Amy Davis asked Sira Komalasen. "You know, you have to clean properly," he answered.

"And so were you guys not cleaning before?" Davis asked.

"You know, we clean before but you know sometimes you can not stop them," he said.

Inspectors said they saw a roach under the sink at Flora & Muse inside City Centre. There was heavy slime build-up on the nozzles of the tea spouts at Chili's at 7408 South Sam Houston Parkway. The slime was so settled at the Golden Corral at 13145 Northwest Freeway, it was black. And at Maggiano's Little Italy on Post Oak near the Galleria, the slime in the ice machine was pink.

Our A's this week go to Domino's Pizza at 14520 Memorial and Smoothie King at 815 Walker inside the tunnels downtown. Both places had spotless inspections.
