Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce encourage more Hispanics to vote

The Daily Beast pored through 30 years of voting data to find out which states have the most passionate voters and, thus, are the most political.

HOUSTON – The Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, joined by prominent Houstonians, will host a press conference encouraging more Hispanics to vote.

Data indicates that Hispanics make up nearly 20 percent of registered voters in Houston, but fewer than 10 percent voted in each of the last three municipal elections.

"An analysis of early voter turnout indicates a slight increase in Hispanic voting. However, given our considerable electoral capacity, Hispanic voter turnout has yet to reach its potential," Dr. Laura Murillo said. "With the Nov. 3 election rapidly approaching, it's more important than ever that Latinos vote to ensure that voter participation reflect the city of Houston's demographics."

The news conference will begin at 9 a.m. Friday at the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce at 1801 Main St., Suite 890, in Houston.
