Residents in Braes Heights fear daylight break-ins

Neighbors fear the area is becoming crime hotspot

HOUSTON – Residents in Braes Heights are speaking out about a recent home burglary and attempted burglary in the area, saying they are worried crime in the area might become a common reality.

The first incident happened at a home on Braeswood Boulevard as the family was on vacation.

The family's surveillance camera was rolling around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 16th when a Cadillac pulled up. Two young men are seen exiting the vehicle. They hop over a driveway gate, ignoring the camera capturing their every move.

One man is wearing a grey hat, red sweater and dark pants. The other guy is wearing a dark blue Adidas track suit.

"Basically kicked this window in, so they were able to get in the house through our play room," one victim said.

The victims asked to remain anonymous. They told KPRC Local 2 the men were in and out in under 10 minutes.

According to the victims, the men left with more than $20,000 worth of jewelry.

Neighbors said they think the area is becoming a hot spot for break-ins in broad day light.

One woman in the area said her home was almost burglarized by two men within the last week. Fortunately, she said she was home when the men tried to break in.

"I saw a man's head in the window, my back French door window, and I turned to him and I said, 'You get out of here now. I'm calling the cops,' and there were two accomplices and they took off," the woman said.

"It seems like they are really targeting neighborhoods now and we have small children in this neighborhood. And it's just not safe and they are very bold to do that at 1:30 in the afternoon on a Sunday," the first victim said.

According to one of the victims, police caught one of the suspects.
