Firefighters said they immediately went into defensive mode to keep the fire from spreading to neighboring houses.

The couple who rents the home was out to dinner at the time of the fire and was not injured.

The owner of the house, who lives across the street in his other home, said he heard an explosion, went to investigate, and saw two teenagers riding away from the scene on their bicycles.

According to the homeowner, there have been at least four houses along the same side of the street that have caught fire, and he believes someone has been setting them on purpose.

Arson units have not yet determined a cause of the fire.
