Red Cross opens shelters in Harris, Montgomery, several other counties after heavy flooding

HOUSTON – The American Red Cross has opened shelters in several counties where residents were impacted by flooding over the Memorial Day weekend, officials announced Saturday afternoon.

The American Red Cross has shelters opened throughout the areas impacted by storms and floods.

Shelter locations are as below:

Harris County

  • New Light Christian Church, 1535 Greensmark Dr.

Montgomery County

  • East Montgomery County Senior Center, 21679 McCleskey Rd, New Caney
  • Wildwood United Methodist Church, 8911 FM 1488
  • First United Methodist Church, 4308 West Davis St.

Officials said the St. Simon and Jude Catholic Parish shelters will not be opening at this time. 

Austin County

  • St. John Lutheran Church, 520 North Holland St.

Brazoria County

  • Christ Lutheran Church, 86 Plantation Drive, Lake Jackson

Fort Bend County

  • First Baptist Church, 502 S. 5th St, Richmond

San Jacinto County

  • SThese shelters will be open 24 hours a day, providing a warm, dry place to stay, food and emotional support for area residents who are not able to remain at their homes due to storms and flooding. hepherd Community Center, 10251 Hwy 150

Waller County

  • Bible Fellowship Baptist Church, 1214 FM 359 Brookshire

Liberty County

  • Calvary Baptist Church, North Blair Ave, Cleveland

Tyler County

  • Woodville United Methodist Church, 508 W. Bluff St., Woodville

Wharton County

  • Boys and Girls Club, 2120 Newton St, Wharton

These shelters will be open 24 hours a day, providing a warm, dry place to stay, food and emotional support for area residents who are not able to remain at their homes due to storms and flooding. 

Volunteers and supplies have been positioned throughout the area, Red Cross officials said.
