A rally was held in downtown Houston to support Robbie Tolan in his civil rights lawsuit against a white Bellaire police officer who shot him in 2008.
Tolan was shot in his driveway by Officer Jeffery Cotton because he was suspected of driving a stolen vehicle and being armed.
In defense statements, Cotton said he thought Tolan was reaching for a weapon and was acquitted of criminal charges.
Tolan's attorney filed an appeal, which was upheld by the Supreme Court.
Tolan's lawsuit alleges he was racially profiled by Cotton and his civil rights were violated.
Tolan's family has hired the attorney for Trayvon Martin's family, Benjamin Crump, to help with his case.
