Radio show hosts slam MLB player for taking paternity leave

Boomer and Carton suggest a planned C-Section was in order

HOUSTON – Opening Day is one of the biggest days for MLB players, but what do you do if your wife goes into labor ON that day?

The answer seems simple to most, you drop what you're doing and rush to your wife's side to be there when your child is born.

New York Mets' second baseman Daniel Murphy missed the season's first two games to do just that. He then decided to take the full three days of paternity leave allowed by Major League Baseball to be with wife and son.

Acceptable? Not to radio show hosts Boomer and Carton. They slammed Murphy stating he should have made his wife have a planned C-Section so he could be at Opening Day.

"Quite frankly I would've said 'C-section before the season starts. I need to be at opening day. I'm sorry, this is what makes our money, this is how we're going to live our life, this is going to give our child every opportunity to be a success in life. I'll be able to afford any college I want to send my kid to because I'm a baseball player,'" Boomer Esiason said Wednesday.

So, how long do you stay?

Craig Carton said, "to me, and this is just my sensibility, assuming the birth went well, assuming your wife is fine, assuming the baby is fine — 24 hours, you stay there, baby is good, you have a good support system for the mom and the baby, you get your a*s back to your team and you play baseball," Carton said.
